The +s of Pecorino
While perusing the copy of L’Italo-Americano from the Italian Festa yesterday in San Jose, I came across an article that says that a study conducted from 2003-2009 showed that small amounts of Pecorino cheese can protect against arterioscleroisis, and also contain anti-inflammatory and cancer-fighting properties.
I couldn’t find the article in the online version of...
Today, a crisp firm plum. YUM!
Crunchy crispy
Salt etching from back in the day when I had time to do things like etchings.
Today I enjoyed a delicious white nectarine which I purchased at Saturday’s farmer’s market up at San Mateo College. It was crunchy and firm, just like I like ‘em. Most people like their peaches and other fruits soft and juicy. Me, I like them hard and crisp. As long as they have sweetness and some...

Don't cry over spoilt milk...
But feel free to blog about it.
After returning from the two weeks in Ireland, the milk in my refrigerator was chunky—YUM. It was the perfect time for UHT milk, which, unfortunately, I did not have on hand.
Luckily, there was a cannister of whipping cream, which did the trick of whitening the coffee just fine. Not so usable on cereal, however.

Fine Dining in Dublin
After touring around Ireland and having way too many meals comprised of multiple forms of potato, I was happy to enjoy a very nice (if pricey) meal down the street from our hotel in Dublin.
One Pico was recommended to us by the concierge at Buswells. At first there was some skepticism, because (a) who’d think that a restaurant so close to the hotel would be good and (b) it was one of the...

Irish Whiskey
Bushmills Distillery on the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland.
We toured Bushmills, which is the Ireland’s oldest working distillery. They got their official license to distill from King James I in 1608, but had actually been making whiskey for about 300+ years prior. That’s a lot of history.
Prior to Prohibition in the U.S., there were over 100 distilleries in Ireland. They...

The Goodness of Guinness
The Guinness truck restocks the pub at Sligo Town
I’m not typically a beer drinker, but I was chided by my traveling companion (who does drink beer) after I ordered a glass of wine at Nancy’s Pub in Ardara, Ireland. “What!? You should not be drinking wine here!”
I knew he was right. I took a taste of the Bulmers cider which his wife had just received and decided it was tasty and...
UHT Milk--Uhltimate Convenience
Parmalat is Europe’s leading producer of UHT dairy products.
Sitting in a European hotel room, sipping a cup of instant Nescafe whitened with UHT milk. It got me thinking about how convenient UHT milk is. Many Americans may not be familiar with UHT milk (even though I am sure it has touched most of us in the form of those plastic containers of half-and-half that are ubiquitous in offices...
